It's been a long road, folks. Since the release of JUNEXIIITH, I had begun working on a newly designed CD. I wanted something that was completely me by design, layout, format, etc. Although I had beats from other producers, I proceeded to construct my own sound (different from previous versions) that was much more layered. Under the wing of Bunny's classical piano skills and layered sounds, I created a Zodiac sound over time that meshed with my rhyme flows and thought patterns. Those patterns collectively wound up being a 2-year project titled Survival Scrolls.
Survival Scrolls, by definition, is simply one's escape from the chaotic world in which we dwell. Bush's tyranny, school shootings, death in the family, economic crisis, gas prices, avoidable overseas deaths, tsunamis,.... Each person has dealt with something in today's world that has altered their perception of it. And each person has an escape. For some, it's destructive (suicide, drugs, or crime). For others, it's creativity (poetry, reading, painting, or singing). For me, my Survival Scrolls is hip-hop in it's purity. Story-telling, perception, creative writing, thought-provoking topics, and concepts that will last a lifetime.
My Survival Scrolls is an 18-song compilation sandwiched by the incredible mind-boggling poetry of Manchild in the Intro and Outro. It's a remix of "ZO-DI-AC" by Bunny that's so smooth, you'll wonder how I even got into a jazzy genre. You'll hear songs that dig deep into the last days on Earth ("Cloud 9"), the current state of Hip-Hop ("Rewind This"), a near-death experience ("Don't Put Me In The Ground"), police harassment ("Innocent Bystander"), self-conscience mindsets ("I Hate What I Saw"), those closest to me ("Will & Testament"), and many more...
In other words, you won't get instructions on how to dance. You won't get how much more money I have than you. You won't get postings of all the women I've had. You won't get anything mindless. You won't get any N-words. Survival Scrolls is meant only for the intellectual individual who can relate to other intellectual individuals. If you can't, I suggest you either buy it and learn how to...or find some teenage ringtone rapper to learn some dance moves from instead.

Aiiight... I have friends callin' and writing to me about this new movie called "Zodiac". Of course, I'm pretty hyped up about it because someone's finally coming out with a quality film about The Zodiac Killer. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm well-informed about The Zodiac Killer....alllll the way back when my little brother first introduced me to him on an old VHS cassette back when I was in 8th grade. Since then, it took 2 research papers (one in High School and one in College) to get the full low-down on this San Francisco killer. It was in College that I changed my moniker from Six-13 to "The Zodiac". My logo is an alteration of his. My cryptic verses are parallel to his cryptic-coded messages and when I murder lyrics or other emcees, you may see me in a black hooded sweatshirt. When I announce myself, I say "This is The Zodiac speaking...".
All of this pays homage to a symbol and message. My difference lies in the fact, I have no interest in slayin' innocent people and leavin' them as bloody stumps for their loved-ones to find.....anymore. Nah, I'd rather preserve hip-hop, stay lyrical, and kill the industry with coded and non-coded messages. Either way, the world will have a chance to see where I got my name from way back 14+ years ago.
After this flick...watch how many cats start calling themselves "The Zodiac" or "The Zodiac Killer". All I gotta say is... TOO LATE!!. I got the name, the CDs, ASCAP, government documents, the website, rep, etc. that protects me. Call yourselves something else youngin'. Peep the trailer:
